Coaching is not psychotherapy

Coaching is a goal-focused service and is not a substitute for mental-health treatment, diagnosis, crisis care, or psychotherapy. Coaching may not be appropriate when a person is experiencing significant mental-health symptoms or safety concerns. We explain the differences before any service begins.

Questions people ask

What is life coaching?
Life coaching is structured, goal-focused support that helps adults gain clarity, build accountability, make decisions, and follow through on personal or professional goals.
Is life coaching covered by insurance?
No. Coaching is not a clinical service and is not billed to insurance.
Can I do coaching and therapy at the same time?
Sometimes, with clear boundaries between the services and separate agreements. We discuss what makes sense for you.
How is life coaching different from therapy?
Coaching focuses on present goals and future action. Therapy diagnoses and treats mental-health conditions and works with symptoms, history, and healing.
How do I know whether I need coaching or therapy?
If you are functioning reasonably well and want structure, accountability, and momentum, coaching fits. If you are experiencing significant symptoms, trauma, or safety concerns, therapy is the appropriate service.
How long does life coaching take?
Coaching is typically short-term and goal-bounded, with progress reviewed at defined checkpoints.
How often are coaching sessions?
Most clients meet every one to two weeks to keep accountability steady without crowding out action.
Are life coaching sessions virtual?
Yes. Coaching is delivered virtually.
What does a coaching session look like?
You review progress on agreed actions, work through obstacles, sharpen the goal, and leave with specific commitments for the next interval.
What kinds of goals does life coaching address?
Clarity on values and direction, decision-making, confidence and follow-through, boundaries and time management, and professional alignment.
Do coaches diagnose or treat mental-health conditions?
No. Coaching does not include diagnosis, treatment, crisis care, or psychotherapy.
Is coaching confidential?
Coaching conversations are treated as private, though coaching does not carry the same legal protections as psychotherapy. This is explained in your coaching agreement.
Do I have to live in Texas, Colorado, or Missouri for coaching?
No. State licensure limits apply to therapy, not coaching. If clinical needs emerge, licensure and location become relevant and we will discuss it.
What if coaching is not the right fit?
If we determine that therapy or another service is more appropriate, we will say so and help you find the right care.
How do I start life coaching?
Use the Start Here page or call the office and ask about coaching. We review your goals and confirm fit before beginning.

You don't have to carry it all alone.

We see you. We hear you. We honor your story. Together, we evolve.
